Routine: 5-7 days; preliminary report is issued at 48-72 hours after receipt. | |||
Collection Information: | See Microbiology Collection Information by Source. | ||
Transport Information: | Deliver to lab immediately. All specimens must be signed into the laboratory. | ||
Reference Client: | If unable to deliver to lab immediately, store and transport at room temperature. Do NOT refrigerate. Specimen must be received in lab within 24 hours. | ||
Causes for Rejection: | Improperly labeled, incorrect container, contaminated, insufficient quantity, incorrect/delay in transport, unsuitable source, not collected under anaerobic conditions. | ||
Reference Range: | No growth of anaerobic bacteria. | ||
Additional Information: | Anaerobe susceptibilities are performed by request only and the test is sent to an outside reference lab. The order must be placed as a reference lab specimen and Microbiology lab must be notified at 42358 to prepare the specimen. Gram stains are automatically performed with an anaerobic culture. |
